Bolivia's mess
Well, things are certainly changing rapidly in Bolivia. I just received an email from a good friend of mine who is a missionary outside of Cochabamba and she is reporting a lot of bad things. First of all, Evo Morales, Bolivia's president, has banned the catholic church from participating in the upcoming election. He wants to restore the Inca pagan religion as the main religion in Bolivia. He is also calling for a civil war between the Cambas and Collas (east vs. west), who have had years of animosity towards one another. Apparently a fistfight broke out in Congress the other day!!
PLEASE pray for the elections on July 2, they will determine who is elected to rewrite the constitution, although I have a feeling it's a no win situation for the opposition to Evo, because if they do win, Evo may just move ahead and try to force a civil war.
What does this mean for me? Well, certainly, October is a long way off. I need to wait and see what happens and it may very well be better for me to wait until January to head down. I can do I-Teams January training and then still get down there in time for the start of the 2007 school year. If civil war breaks out, I may look into other options. I'm part of I-Teams now, so I can go to any of their ministries. I'm not saying I'm not willing to risk Trinidad, but I also don't want to put myself into an imminently dangerous situation.
